Five Simple Things That Are Bringing Me Happiness Right Now

10 June 2020

Happy Wednesday Everyone. Hope you are all having a lovely week so far. I think we can all admit that right now is a little bit of an odd time. I realise that sentence is probably the understatement of the year so today I wanted to just write a slightly positive post purely to make myself feel a little bit happier. With everything that is going on in the world right now it is completely understandable and justifiable as to why everyone's mood has just taken a beating at the moment but I also think it's okay to be positive and upbeat too which is why I wanted to write this post. Today I thought I would talk to you about five things I am loving at the moment.

1# Not Wearing Make Up. I'm not going to lie I haven't worn make up since I was put on furlough back in March and my skin is breathing so much. However, despite the make up I have had quite a lot of spots appear on the side of my face, neck and chin but I think that might have more to do with all the chocolate I've been eating. Woops. At the moment I am due to go back to work at the start of July and even though I am excited, because I do shift work, I am dreading have to put make up on at 3/4AM. That is definitely not going to be easy and way to much effort. I definitely have to stock up on make up too because at the beginning of quarantine I did a huge clear out and a lot of my make up is now in the bin. Oops.

2# Reading. If you've followed me on social media for the past couple of months then you will have seen I've basically been reading none stop. My job is one where I can't work from home and being furlough means I've not really had much to do with the company other than a little bit of online training that I had to do. I've read about 12 or 13 books since the beginning of May and honestly with everything that is going on at the moment it is so lovely to have that little bit of escapism and not have to worry about what is going on for a couple of hours. I've recently bought the entire Harry Potter box collection and I am so excited to actually read the books in order at long last. I've also recently read 'Our Stop' which is top of the pile in the photo above and it's such a cute chick lit novel. I highly recommend everyone reads it. It's funny, it's cringe worthy and it's oh so romantic. I loved it!

3# Chloe Perfumes. I absolutely adore Chloe perfumes and I received a box set full of minute Chloe perfumes at Christmas and it's only taken me till now to actually open them up and use them and I am obsessed. Yes I'm not going anywhere and yes nobody but my family (who I live with by the way) can smell but it's one of those things that actually makes me feel quite put together.

4# Grey's Anatomy. So I discovered this show last year at some point after seeing so many people talk about it on twitter and it was on quite a lot of people's instagram stories so I thought I would give it a shot and it is one of the best decisions I have ever made. The medical profession is one I have always been intrigued by purely because my Mum is a nurse and when I was younger I wanted to follow her footsteps into that profession. Unfortunately school was something I struggled at and I soon realised it wasn't meant to be but that's okay. This show follows the lives of a group of doctors as they work their way up to be fully qualified surgeons. There is a lot of heartache, character development, cast changes etc but it is just incredible and a show I would highly recommend. However, if you are squeamish or don't like blood stay far away!

5# Long Walks In The Park. At the beginning of lockdown/quarantine I was super scared to even leave my house to go for a walk but then the government made it loud and clear that this was allowed so I started going every single day and I am so glad I did. Right next to my house there is a park and I have been there a few times but only recently have I realised just how big and incredible it actually is and how many hidden gems are there. I've discovered little rivers, I've seen so many different types of birds, as part of the park is a nature reserve and just discovered how incredible this place truly is. Not going to lie though I'm pretty sure I've seen every single inch of that park now and I am getting a little bored of walking around the same place every day BUT if it wasn't for this period I wouldn't have known about it at all so in a way I'm grateful to this time. It's also been the perfect time for me to catch up on new music and most days I will message a couple of friends asking for any recommendations and it has been an absolute joy coming across new artists over this period.

Obviously there have been other things such as baking banana and apple muffins, having house party dates with my best friends etc, that have also made me extremely happy over this period as well. One thing I will add to this blog post is to please not feel guilty about feeling happy or enjoying yourself over this time. The world is an incredibly scary place right now and yes we do need to pay attention and educate ourselves more on it all but at the same time it's okay to have a laugh and take time for yourself so please don't feel guilty about it. Your mental health has to come first.
