10 Ways You Can Keep Yourself Occupied During Lockdown

28 April 2020

Hi Everyone. Golly gosh it has been a long time hasn't it. I cannot remember the last time I blogged and I haven't even gone back to have a look because I know it has been a while. I have been wanting to get back to my blog for a while now and obviously with the dreaded C word, fortunately it means I have a lot of time right now that I probably won't ever have again. Due to the social distancing measures/lockdown/quarantine- whatever it is you want to call it, I thought I'd come up with a few ideas and ways in which you can keep yourselves occupied during this time. I know I was struggling to find ways to occupy myself at the start of this lockdown and shamefully sleeping until like 1PM but I felt grumpy and like I was sleeping my life away. This is definitely not a post I thought I would have to write ever but it was still fun to whip up! A lot of these ideas are things I have been doing myself so I hope they help keep you entertained.

Get Creative In The Kitchen
If you have been on social media a lot in the last couple of weeks then I am sure you are aware of the banana cake boom that is taking not just the UK but the world by storm right now. I have dabbled in banana bread, chocolate chip banana muffins, rice pudding, smoothies, fruit salads and a whole bunch of other yummy treats. Doing shift work normally means I don't really get a lot of time in the kitchen and I still live at home where my mum absolutely loves to cook and also bake. With all this free time we have at the moment there really is no better time than to learn a new skill or perfect an already existing one. Keep an eye out on instagram stories and other blogs as well as I know a lot of people are baking and posting recipes on there as well. Not just for cakes but also regular meals etc too!

Catch Up On Your Favourite Boxsets
How often do you find yourself saying 'Oh I really need to watch that' or 'It's on my list of things to watch' but yet you don't actually do it. I know I'm guilty of these but there's so many amazing TV shows on Netflix and Amazon Prime at the moment that I am slowly but surely making my way through at the moment. I'm currently on 'The Crown' now and then I'm going to move on to Peaky Blinders after. If you've watched everything then perhaps revisiting and old favourite show of yours. Two of mine that I absolutely love are One Tree Hill and Gilmore Girls. Two very different shows but both amazing.

Start  A New Hobby
Most of us have unfortunately been furloughed or have had to work from home during this time. In turn it does mean that we have a little bit more time on our hands than we would have done otherwise. It's probably time that we will never have again so why not start up something new? I recently ordered some diamond paintings as they just look so cool and I know it is something that will stop me scrolling through my phone for hours on end. I have recently completed my first one and safe to say it is definitely something I enjoy doing and I look forward to completing the other three that I have got in my pile. You can also look at starting a new instrument like the keyboard, I know amazon are selling them for not to bad a price at the moment or look at doing puzzles again, amazon is your best friend for these.

Read, Read, Read
Reading has always been something I absolutely love doing regardless of whether or not we are in isolation however it wasn't really something I was able to do much of when I was working long hours and strange shift times. In the last week alone I have read 2 books and I am currently half way through my third book now. With everything that is going on there is honestly no better way to escape than getting lost in another world with different characters. I currently have 14 books on my 'to be read' list and I am slowly working my way through them. I am going to do a post soon of all the books I have read this year so far so make sure you stay tuned for that.

Recreate Old Childhood Photos
So I have actually seen these trend on ticktok and it has honestly made me smile so much. I think it is such a lovely trend and we need to remember we won't get as much time as now to spend with our families so why not make the most of it and have a little fun. I know it's something me and my brother are planning on doing this weekend so I definitely need to have a look at the old photo albums and see what we can recreate. You don't just have to do it with your siblings, you can do it by yourself or with your parents. It's definitely going to be fun to compare yourself then and now especially if you have moved back into your childhood home.

Make The Most Of Your Daily Exercise
I know going out even for exercise is currently a hot topic at the moment as people are just like 'well you can do exercise at home'. Whilst I agree with this to a certain extent for me it is honestly impossible as my mum is constantly gardening and my brother does shift work so I never really want to make to much noise especially as his room is below mine and our floorboards are ridiculously creaky. I have a huge park just next to my house which I have been to before however I didn't really explore it much and during this time when I have gone out I have noticed so many little hidden gems that I would have never seen before all this kicked off so in one way I am super grateful and thankful for that as it's so stunning and super quiet too as nobody ever really goes there so very rarely do I see people which is definitely a good thing. There's lots of different challenges going on at the moment as well like the Run 5K challenge that everyone is being nominated for on instagram. You run 5K, donate £5 and nominate 5 people to do the same and I think it's another really fun way of bringing people together so you can definitely have some fun with your daily exercise at this time. Just stay away from people okay? Just a side-note as well the photo used to illustrate this blog post was taken on one of my daily walks.

Virtual Quizzes
Whether it's house party or zoom the best way to get together with your friend and family right now is through the internet and what better way to get together than by doing a fun quiz online. It can be about absolutely anything you like and the best part? EVERYBODY can have a drink and you don't need to worry about how people are getting home?! What could be better? This is next on my list of things to do with my friends and family and I cannot wait.

Join The TikTok Bandwagon
Now this, this is unbelievably controversial at the moment and I have no idea why. Yes it's people doing the same repetitive dances but I personally think it's absolutely fabulous. It makes me laugh so much and some of the dances on there are fabulous too. You don't have to post but kind of linking to the above point about daily exercise you can learn these dances as a form of exercise, trust me when I say a lot of these dances are not as easy as they look and are a workout in itself. I love going on there and just seeing people having fun and not really caring what people say about them which I absolutely love.

Pamper Yourself
Not only is this the perfect time to give yourself a pamper it is also very well deserved. Right now self care should honestly be at the top of our priority lists and there are so many things you can do from face masks, to long baths, to DIY gel nails from just lighting a candle, popping on a face mask and sitting down with a good book. It's something that just has to be done.

Start A Blog
I thought I'd include this one last as I couldn't think of a better time to start a blog where you can post about literally anything you want. Whether its recipes you're making, how you're spending this time, TV shows you're watching etc the sky really is the limit to the amount of content you can actually write about at the moment.

Ah it's a funny old time isn't it. There's no denying how weird this all is at the moment but I really hope you are all staying safe and if you're a key worker during this time then I am sending you lots of love and I thank you so much for everything you are doing wherever you are working at this time. You are all amazing and I'm sending you and your families all my love. If you are furloughed like me then I hope you are all okay too. We will be back to business eventually.

What are you all up to during this strange uncertain time?
Hugs and Kisses
