10 Ways I Plan To Be Happier & Healthier For The Rest Of 2017


Hey Everyone! Hope you are all well. Today is my first day back at work for over 2 weeks. I have had a bit of a break because I have been working so much and I also needed a bit of a break to focus on my mental health as well as just try and find inspiration and motivation in different places. I went to France for nine days which was lovely (post will be up next week) and I came back on the Saturday just gone and since coming back I have felt a little better and have managed to get a lot more motivation. I then came up with this blog post idea of how I can be happier and healthier for the duration of this year. I made this a private note in my journal but I thought why not share it with you on my blog as well as perhaps it's something a lot of you may need to read just now as well. I hope you enjoy this post.

  • Do More Exercise 
This is one I definitely plan on working on a lot over the next few months. Not only to become fitter and become more confident within my body but it's also something I feel like I need to do for my mental health. Heading to the gym and exercising more is definitely something that I am going to do a lot more of in order to become less tired and groggy. I do exercise but definitely not as much as I should and I think making it a part of my daily routine is something that will help me become more energetic, healthier, fitter and more comfortable within myself. 

  • Drink More Water 
Drinking water is something I have always stuggled with. I've always been the person that has turned to less healthy options like juice and fizzy drinks and even though I still have the occasional Sprite here or there I have started to drink a lot more water. One thing that inspired me was coming across THIS blog post from the lovely Zoella. In the post she speak about adding fruit to your water to make it taste a little bit nicer and she includes around 4/5 different options for your water which I think is amazing. On days when the weather is slightly warmer those options are perfect. I've also recently bought a water bottle from Wilkinson. It's pink, it's cute and it's just a simple bottle that I can just take out and about with me filling it up at different places throughout the day. It is something I've started to do a lot at work and it really does work. 

  • Improve Your Diet 
I don't have a bad diet and I never really have done. I've always had good healthy meals however like with the Sprite I do tend to binge eat or eat at the wrong times or simple have just a bit too much. At the end of the day I do love food and that's something I'm not going to be afraid of admitting...at the end of the day it does keep us alive. I'm just going to opt for the more healthy options and have everything in moderation and just have a more clean, healthy and balanced diet. I'm also going to try and make more meals from scratch so I control all the refined sugars and fats that go into my meals. I'm excited to experiment with food. 

  • Get More Sleep 
This is something I've always struggled with. I have insomnia and getting to sleep at a reasonable time is something that has never happened for me. No ideal when you work shift work often doing 9 days in without a break. It can get pretty exhausting. Even though it's going to be very challenging I am going to try and get myself into a proper routine in order to use up more energy. I think the problem I have is I never really get tired. So I'm aiming to use up enough energy in order to hopefully get more sleep this year.

  • Cut All Toxic People From Your Life 
This is something I started to do towards the end of last year but then for some reason stopped. I've always been the girl who has let everyone walk over me and ends up getting treated like absolute rubbish. The last couple of months has seen my mental health gone from bad to worse. I've come to realise that I don't deserve to be treated this way. I, like everyone else in this world, deserves to have people who see the best in me. I need to start surrounding myself with positive people who like to see me happy rather than be surrounded by people who bring me down all the time. Hopefully by the end of 2017 all these people would have disappeared. Who knows? Only time will tell. 

  • Be Less Critical Of Yourself 
I think this is the biggest aim of mine in order to be happier for the remainder of the year. I'm always thinking I'm not good enough. I always think I'm not good at my job, I'm too fat, my blog is not great, nobody likes me etc. I mean I know it sounds pathetic but it's the truth and I wish it's something I could change. It's not going to happen overnight but it is something that I desperately want to change over the next 4 months. 

  • Stop Comparing Yourself 
This is linked to the above point about being less critical of myself I guess. I mean I follow so many gorgeous inspirational men and women on social media and I can't help but think that I'm going nowhere in life because of it. However I need to remember that people only show their highlights and the best parts of their lives on social media and that we never truly know what's going on behind closed doors. Comparing yourselves to others can be very self destructive and it's important to remember to focus on ourselves and our own happiness. 

  • Have Social Media Breaks 
I went through the stage a couple of months ago where I never really posted much on social media. I used facebook but that's because I have family in different parts of the world on there but I rarely posted on twitter and instagram. I needed a break as it was becoming to negative and I just wasn't enjoying anything about it anymore and that included blogging as well. Obviously it didn't last long but sometimes it's nice to have a bit of a break and not be constantly glued to your phone. Most of my job is spent looking at a computer screen all day so it's nice to sometimes come home and not have to look at anything. I'll definitely be having a lot more of them. Maybe I'll have a week per month of no social media...we'll have to wait and see. 

  • Be More Grateful 
Recent events have taught me that we need to stop complaining about the things we don't have and start being a lot more grateful for the things we do have. It can be the simplest of things like being able to go home to loved ones at the end of the day, having a roof over your head etc. I find that we spend too much time of our lives wishing for things we'd rather have and not really focusing on the things we do have. With all the tragedy that's happened around the world this year, especially the Grenfell Fire, I just think gratitude is so important. I actually downloaded an app when I was in France called the '5 Day Journal' and it has 3 main sections inside it where you can write three things about what you are grateful for, what you'll do to make that day great and what great things happened that day. I think it's a great little app and something that I have been using everyday since I downloaded it. I'd highly recommend it if you're looking for a bit of positivity in your life. It also has an inspiration quote when you open the app each day which I think is a lovely touch. (By the way this is not sponsored I just really bloody love this app!) 

  • Have More 'Me' Time
This is something I think a lot of us forget to do on a daily basis. Something I've decided to do is have a full pamper day at least once a week. I think we all deserve to have a bit of a pamper here and there. We all work hard so why not treat ourselves. It doesn't even have to be a really expensive trip to the spa, it can just be you locking your bedroom/bathroom door getting your favorite products together with a bunch of treats, popping on some good music or your favorite film/tv show and just relaxing. I just think we definitely need to give ourselves a bit more TLC and it's something I'm definitely going to be giving myself more of from this day onwards. 

So there we have it, just 10 ways I will be happier and healthier for the remainder of 2017. I desperately need to make certain changes in my life in order to improve my mental health and also my happiness. I'm really glad I wrote this post and decided to share it with all of you on my blog as it may give those of you some inspiration if you want to make some changes to your own health and happiness for the remainder of the year.
